Hi there, I wonder wether you could probably give me a tip which software is recommendable for social networking sites. I used drupal a year ago quite a lot, but somehow - I can´t even tell why exactly - it isn´t really what I am searching for allthough it´s a great piece of software. Or does anyone probably know a link where one can find information about social networking software? thx
exactly... a niche social networking site... should be rather easy to setup with basis social networking components but there should exist the option to "upgrade" so to say...
Well I found quite a lot through google... and that is my problem... to differ promotion from facts... so I was asking wether anyone could recommend certain software... so to say tried already and considers still as a fine software (since on the according pages of course every software is promoted to be great)...
this is a review of different social network scripts http://www.mytestbox.com/category/social-network-software-reviews/
I use and like phpfox. I had tried many others free/paid and this one still the best IMHO. You have good support, active users, many free and paid mod's. Just my opinion....
why can't i find a social networking site that has a magazine like frontpage where ARTICLES, NEWS, FEATURED, etc etc. articles being the big thing..a community website that doesn't come off as another community site, ie myspace friendster facebook wannabees...agh....i'm looking for something similar to fuzz.com's look and feel...
A really stable, high performance, secure, easy to manage, feature rich social networking site takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to build - and no one is going to pay for it. Most organizations are using private label sites which they pay hefty sums for on an annual basis. The scripts that are normally discussed on this forum are adequate, but in no way can compete against the more advanced software that you need in order to build a large community (including some niche that makes sense). The scripts are good place holders, but I've looked at all of them and they are all rather boring and for me not worth the effort. Rich
Look into www.dzoic.com (Handshakes)...it has modules which can be added or removed. Or you can look at these too: http://www.mytestbox.com/category/social-network-software-reviews/
How many users your site is having currently ? Just to get an idea of how DRUPAL performs for a big social network...
some people are using NING for social networking. Here's one that I know of, although not involved in : http://www.tilerspace.com and they're using it.
5100 confirmed 7800 total (includes those that didn't confirm their email) We haven't done any marketing yet, but I'm expecting at least a 10x increase at that point
70,000 isn't a big number...700,000 would be...I don't know about Drupal but I guess Handshake can handle 70,000 quite well... If you will have 700,000 I think you would need custom programming for Handshakes to make it accomodate that number...
It depends what your skill level is and if you want to write code for your network and host the files yourself. If you like to work with code and want to host the files yourself, you could probably try go with one of the open source solutions or something like BoonX. But if you don't want to incur the hosting costs and don't want write lots of code, you could try a service like The Village. It's simple to setup and is customizable.
We've been very happy with both Dolphin and Phpfox. I run two modification sites for these: DolphinElite.com Konsort.org
