I have been watching the Social Networking trend on the Internet lately - It has spread almost everywhere. what are your thoughts on social networking wrt education? do you know some websites which are catering to this segment well? Please share.
Searches seems will be socialize, probably facebook is one of the nice model which can be used to cater the educational segment that you might be looking for.
I have seen quite a few article online on this subject. MySpace, Xanga, Facebook, Live Journal, and the like are all a good source to actually discover the educational segment.
hrm, it depends what you mean by educational.. Facebook was founded on a university campus to allow students to create profiles and share friends and information, so if thats the thought of thing your looking for then yes.. its perfect. As a 'learning' platform.. could be used like that I suppose.. might need to be re-worked a bit, but could certainly be a good idea.
Thanks for your replies - all these social networking initiatives are huge and have been successful in getting students together - but none provides platform for collaborative learning, how about connecting students in a classroom kind of a setup? Also, what if connected members are able to help each other by sharing notes etc? just a thought
I've joined mSpace and facebook etc but once in you don't exactly doo much. People mainly use it to get you to be their "friend" and then ask you to buy or look at their website. So, it's nice as an IM tool.
Most social networks are for entertainment and networking.. i dont know how many people would be interested in education network.
I dont see the big deal about social sites, its just where young people go and post messages about each other. I mean wow?
Orkut and facebook are the best sites running in India.... And there is no much scope for SN sites here....Unless you promote it heavily..
