Hi, i am creating an e-learning website that allows people to buy Education Courses for other people (college friends etc...). Receivers of these Courses have to sign into the website to complete various tutorials each day. A live activity feed is on the home page of the site and it shows the different activities of each of the users... I have seen the "Sign In With Twitter" and "Sign In With Facebook" options on many sites, what are the real advantages of adding this feature to your site. I am trying to weigh up whether it is worth my time adding this feature to my site, thanks in advance for your help...
The advantage is that the user just clicks the link and is registered on your site. Nothing to fill out.
Ok, i HAVE to get various information from a user when they sign up, such as Gender and Country... there are required in order for the site to work so would this then rule out the option of adding the "Sign In With..." to my site... what are your opinions on adding this feature, do you think many user use this feature on sites, thanks Rukbat
Many do. But if you need additional information, and the site won't work without it, you're not saving them anything except an additional password to remember. On a site like this, if I enter my birthday or not, the site still works. On a dating site it wouldn't work until I entered all the additional information. You have to decide whether using external logins makes it easier for your users or not. (Of course you can just give them the option of a few external logins or doing it manually on your site.)
