Social Media Marketing Techniques

    Hello,

I plan to hire a person to do some SMM work or our web-site.

Part of the job is promoting our site using G+, Facebook, PInterest, LinkedIn etc.

I wonder, if such marketing effort can be considered as spam?

Generally our aim is to create awareness, and have our site mentioned and discussed in the channels, although I am afraid that if this will happen to fast Google may target us as spam.

    Should I have concerns?

You could throw in posting comments on relevant blogs/forums. Well it's part of marketing. As long as you're posting relevant and quality info, I think it should be fine.

    All the best!

Many individuals and companies are developing there own custom social pages over Facebook, Google plus, and etc. There is no such restriction though. Just follow the polices and dont violate any of their terms. A genuine discussion can bring good business over those social networks. Hiring a person for SMM would be good enough.

Instead of hiring a person I would use the budget on running FB or linked in ads.

If you are clever with your landing pages you can work wonders and also get cheap leads if you target your ads in a right way.

    Hi Uri,

If you're focusing on social media marketing (SMM), my first question is are you looking at "passive" SMM or "active" SMM.

If you're using passive meaning the person you hire would just post information about your business each day or using something like Hootesuite to automate the pushing of your information, then you have to keep in mind that it might not be effective and taking longer to see results.

If you're using active SMM, then that means the person you're hiring will spend more time not only posting information about your business, but engage in the social community to increase connections, likes, etc. along with commenting on other people's posts to develop relationships. As you can imagine active SMM will show better results and faster...just takes more labor time.

Another option for consideration is social media advertising (SMA) in which you are sponsoring posts in LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+. At present Google+ is in beta, but when it roles out sponsored posts on Google+ will be more effective because they will also be shown through the Double Click ad network, which Google owns.

Hope this gives you something to think about.

Let me explain you in details.... You have to decide the correct niche for your website, Facebook and Twitter will be best for SMM...
Join open Groups on Facebook of your website niche... And post related to your websites.... This is best viral way to spread...
    BEST OF LUCK...

    I agree.
Stick with high quality content. Which can be real pain in the ass when you hire wrong person for the job. They can do a lot of harm.

Uri, don't use ads, facebook ads are fraud

You can hire some freelancers to do regular posting, and you can use tools like HootSuite (https://hootsuite.com/), inBoundio (http://www.inboundio.com/) and similar software to do semi automation

Depends on the way you do it. For example automatically sending a link and some boilerplate text over multiple accounts, multiple networks, multiple times a day may be considered spam. It's about how much value you're offering. I think if your employee actively interacts and converses with others in the social networks, it would be better all round.

First of all I think you need to set some expectations for this campaign and to create a plan, if you don't have a goal you will not know if you are doing well or not.

As long as you provide quality in your posts and not spamming, then it should be fine.
Reaching people on social media is marketing and all of us are doing it.
One cannot ignore the power of social media these days. It is better to reach as many people as possible on social media. Just market your sites there in a natural way.
    Good luck

Social media marketing has been an effective tool for me. I use twitter to discuss my blog, which brings more followers. Facebook is also a great tool to keep people posted on your business. Unfortunately, the links in Facebook are nofollow, so it does not affect your search rankings. You may view my blog at Thornhill Tutoring. When people read my blog, they are guided through other pages to my Thornhill English Tutor site.

    Dear Uri..
The question is very genuine, actually I am sure You should be conscious while using such techniques, Social media like Facebook,Twitter, Google+,Pinterest all of them are safe You can use them without any fear. But as I am also in same situation for the sake of awareness will my comments and posting at different blogs are considered as spam, still I didn't find any answer :(

The most entertaining posts usually seem the least like spam. However, social media versus forums are usually better places for posting links. However, you should make sure they don't sound like blatant ads, and they should be relevant as someone mentioned.
