Social Media Marketing Strategy: What sites to target

I have an active online marketing strategy for my website and I have long term ambitions. I realise that internet success will not be achieved in a day but I am confident that I can build a high enough profile in 2 years to be profitable enough to be my main occupation. During the first year I have concentrated on search engines and we now get about 1000 visits per month which is highly targeted searches mainly form Google.

Now in its second year, we are focusing more on social media marketing. IN addition to participating in about top 10 niche blogs and forums in the industry, we are focusing on the following social networking/bookmarkingh sites. What more can be done??

    Digg
    Delicious
    Tumblr
    Technorati
    Squidoo
    Twitter

Stumble? That would be my #1 and Twitter my #2.

Digg can be empty traffic and del.icio.us might be better.

Squidoo, Hubpages and the like you have to promote. You're better off promoting your own site. Zimbio can be good. You can add your content to other users web-zines.

If the search engine work you did in the first year has worked for you, why are you changing strategies? Perhaps you should instead be expanding to target more keywords and get better rankings. Each new page of content you add can be a new entrance page targeting new keywords.

Social bookmarking only really works well for certain niches. For other niches it only gives a short lived boost. For a crowded niche like website design, I don't think social bookmarking well help your long term efforts.

I havent really used StumbleUpon but I keep hearing good things about them so I am about to jump on that but I can speak on behalf of Digg and Twitter.. I definitely get consistent traffic for my posts and twitter actually surprised me because everyday I have new people following me and it just increases..

I agree with vansterdam.. if you had a strategy that worked the first year.. yes expand to social media marketing but also expand your current strategy and see if you can increase your rankings for your current keywords aswell as some new closely related keywords.. expand your targeted traffic.

If you had success with your first plan.. then dont throw it out.. just make it better..

I am agree with ilexx, firstly increase your keyword ranking, and in my view to increase your keyword ranking get linked with those sites which have high page rank.
