    What is Social bookmarking ? Why it is called bookmarking ?

    What is SMO : Social media optimization or Social marketing optimization?

    How it effects on SEO?

    Social Bookmarking sites are places where you can save your bookmarks online rather than in your browser so you can access them from any computer, now they are designed more for sharing web pages with other users. Just like you can bookmark to firefox (or 'favourites' in IE) only online.

    As many of these sites save these bookmarks as live dofollow links you can use them for SEO to get backlinks.

    The major social sharing sites like digg and stumbleupon can also get you loads of direct traffic.

    Social media optimization is optimising your site so that people can easily share it on social media sites like twitter, facebook etc by adding share buttons and linking to your own profiles, if done correctly you will then get lots of traffic from all the social websites. Some use the term in reference to getting backlinks from social sites to help with SEO, but that's just SEO to me not SMO.

    SMO is called social media optimization. Through SMO you can increase visitors to your site. As you also asked for social bookmarking, it is one of the best SEO technique. Social bookmarking helps in increasing back links as well as traffic to site.

    all my links from my facebook page are nofollowed - i would say this is quite useless. unless you're counting on getting quality leads from social networks.
