Social Bookmarking

How many people here put social bookmarking links on their blogs?

If you do, how did you accomplish it? Was it easy?

    If not, why not?

I recently launched a tool for generating free HTML based social bookmarking links, but I don't know if bloggers will use it.

I just looked at socializer, it seems to do the same thing as my tool except it makes your visitors leave your page to go to the socializer page and then another time to the social bookmark website.

The tool I created will keep your visitors at your website for the first step and then straight to the social bookmark website. I'm hoping this will be viewed as an advantage for my tool. Also my tool doesn't require the visitor to have javascript running (not that that is much of a problem these days).

There are a few options out there. You can use the socialize to generate a list of social bookmarking sites or use other that just display the Digg me button. Can we see your tool?

I just tried socializer, but I think it has four disadvantages. Correct me if I'm wrong about these, I just want to make my tool as good as I can.

    1) It relies on the visitor having javascript turned on. Probably not a huge disadvantage because most visitors will have it on, but some may not.

    My tool is 100% HTML.

    2) Socializer forces you to go to their page first and then to the social boomark websites. This means that your visitors are two websites removed from your webpage.

My tool displays social bookmarks directly on your website and when you click on a link a visitor is only one page removed from your website.

    3) (This one I'm not 100% sure about) Socializer can only be used once on your page, which means if you have several blogs on a single page you might be out of luck.

My tool allows you to create and use infinite social bookmark link blocks on your webpage, because it is 100% HTML. This means you can set up different social bookmarks for each blog on the same page.

    4) Socializer is not very prominent on the screen, it is easy to miss.

My tool is very visible because it shows a bunch of good looking icon links.

I do and I don't (I have small Digg and Del.icio.us icons next to the date published). I figured that if the content's good enough to get bookmarked on any social service and then be popular then it doesn't need a button.

I agree with that statement, it is just a matter of convenience. Nothing more.

I've got them just so I can be like everybody else.

Your blog just isn't official without some social bookmarking links.

I don't think they'll turn any readers off. And if they entice somebody into submitting one of my stories, I think they're worth it.

i checked the service, there is one big concern that comes into my mind:

apparently i need to generate a set of buttons for every single page i want to put them? i mean this will work if you want to put the buttons on the homepage, but not if i want to put them on every post page on my blog

I'm sure that if people use the tool, they will use it in different ways.

Not a bad tool, but if your tool is used people will probably remove the backlink. As for me, instead of giving someone a backlink id take 10minutes to write my own php file that does this for me everytime =|

Nothing major unless your content is fresh and interesting...

That is true, visitors are much more likely to bookmark if your content is interesting.

This tool just makes it a little more convenient for the webmaster to add bookmarking and your visitors to actually do it.
