I have to say I disagree. Directories are not nearly as valuable as they used to be few years ago, especially in the eyes of google. Still they can be good diversification of your link profile, but won't bring any significant rankings for decently competitive keywords even if you get thousands of approved links. I do not mind paying someone to submit my sites in some dirs., but this is really not important for me, neither are the SB, which now I left to be done only by the visitors themselves. Still for a very new site, both are a good start for its initial, poor rankings...but just 1 quality and related link will do a better job in my opinion
Directory Submissions are dieing out very few people use directories so I think you should rather do social bookmarking.
I think to do more and more social bookmarking is one of the best side, because one can create and submit your website home page similarly deep page links, also it's the good part to do marketing of your site, one can also able to generate more user to the site.
Do whichever you can do faster and easier, then do the next, and just keep using different methods on and on... it should never end.
me to like directories submission cos directory submission increase links and we get more traffic on site
doing only 100 of either is not very much. Being in a good directory will be worth way more than any amount of social bookmarks, but being heavy in a good social bookmark will vise versa. I'm going to say that 100 social bookmarks is more worth it, but I should say that people should do 1000 of each.
I agree with using both equally. They both have benefits. I don't know if I have the time for doing a thousand of each though. I think I'll be dead before then. LOL
They are both usefull the only problem with social bookmarking there is a very limited supply like in the hundreds if you would like a list of 125 here you go http://www.searchenginejournal.com/...-of-user-generated-tags-votes-and-links/6066/ and if you want a list of 6 thousand directories that you can submit to free here http://makemoneyfree.comuv.com/pages/makewebsite/freeadvertising/freedirectories.html They are both usefull and should be utilized in your marketing campaign but don't forget to expand with press releases, blogging, blog commenting, article submission and link exchange.
I like this post^^ get the webmasters to your site they think its good free one way links meaning high quality. I would like to add bloggers as well they are an untapped marketing resource-good bloggers need a constant supply of resources to post contact bloggers in your niche and ask them to blog about you.
You should do directory submission first for backlinks purpose, and then submit your site to social bookmark sites.
Social Bookmarks can get you massive traffic but the traffic is not targeted. In addition, they are fast traffic. Just after few days, the traffic will be gone forever. Directory Submissions can lead you to more targeted traffic. At the same time, you can also increase you site/blog's exposure in SERPs. If you go for 100 DoFollow Directory Submissions, you may increase your site/Blog's PR and this will definitely benefit you. Of course, do both. You have nothing to loose.
My opinion was to go for social bookmarking. When you bookmark your site in popular social bookmarking sites then your site will get easily indexed in google. submitting in directories having good page rank from page rank 5 will have more effect.
I don't think the purpose of submitting to the directories is to get traffic from the directories - it is mainly to get backlinks. If someone finds them - great - but better yet is having many backlinks from many high pr sites.
Thanks for you have different opinion with me, i like to discuss with about this. This shoud be up to your main purpose,if i am running a oline shop just to wanna more traffic, and i don't care much about the backlinks(just relative),so i chose the social network to attract real person! But in the final, i think the two all good to traffic and backlinks, just have the different role!
I put my money on the directory submissions, since the links can stay around a lot longer and the nofollow attribute murders all your hard work. Keep in mind directory "quality" plays a huge role as well.
