Social Bookmarking vs Article Distribution

Lets say I wanted to get a bunch of backlinks relatively fast. What is better, submitting an article with links to my site to a ton of article sites; or submitting the website to a lot of social bookmarking sites?

I am concerned that the social bookmarking links would disappear over time while the articles wouldn't; but I may be wrong.

I know that using both methods is a good idea - but if you had to choose one?

Article marketing is nice because you can target the backlinks with certain keywords that you would like to build strength for - you can´t really do this effectively with social bookmarking unless the content you are linking has the keywords in the title or something.. Social bookmarking is nice to build a bunch of backlinks in a short period of time - however.

I would use both - why not ?
