I just wanted to confirm either Directory submission is more helpful or social bookmarking submission ?

Both the practices has equal weightage. But it depends on websites on which you are submitting your link. Most important is PR of the website. If you submit your link on good PR websites(both bookmarking and directory sites), you will get better results.
On thing more, as we know that in directory submission link will not be placed immediately but after approval from editor, whereas bookmarks are placed at the same time when submitted, so some people think directories are not important. But this is not the case. Both things are significant on their respective parts. The only thing is quality of the website on which it is submitted.

Both. But a bunch of PR 0 directories won't replace a few big name social bookmarks. On the other hand a few high rank and high profile directories might.

In my own experiences, social bookmarking would be more powerful than directory since it would not only generate direct traffics but also build quality backlinks for our sites if we could use our keywords tactically.

Very well said mate. I really appreciate with your words but there is only one problem with it and that is approval. There is very less chance to get approved in social bookmarking site. Though it provides more benefit as it is social network which integrate with other site and update their database if the content is good.
