What do you guys think is best? SEO or Social bookmarking? I prefer SEO beacause then people will come to your site because they searched for it and they might come back some other time. What are your opinions?
Is not social bookmarking part of SEO - aka - link building/baiting? I believe Rand Fishkin of SEOMOZ and Neil Patel of pronetadvertising - call it social media marketing. It works great for traffic and link-building which will in the long run put your site in good position on SERP. So, I believe, both of them go hand in hand.
Yes, I see your point, but what if you had to choose to spend your money on either SEO or Social Bookmarking. Also.. Imagine that you get 1000 visitors each day. If all of these visitors come from the search engines the visitors will most likely find your information useful because they searched for it and they might subscribe or come back another time. But if all of the visitors come from social bookmarking it's likely that most of the visitors will just look at your website, read some of the article, close your website and look for something more to read.
Social Bookmarking is free.. so you can easily do both. Spend your money on SEO then spend some time bookmarking.
Okay, okay, you got me... Let's say spend your time instead. It's interesting finding out what you guys think. I agree with you that I would try to do both too but what do you think is the most important?
I would classify Social Bookmarking as a subset of SEO and I always concentrate my efforts to achieve the optimal SEO results
SEO & SOcial Bookmarking both have their own advantages.. atlast traffic is coming anyways.. but main thing is targeted traffic so depending upon the niche both the methods should be leveraged properly..
You cant be a master by using one thing only . We have to try everything thing and keep working on them regularly .
Long-term, I'd say go for SEO. The traffic boost you'll get from social bookmarking is temporary, but high SERPs will bring you traffic for a long time (assuming you can stay there).
I still stand by my point and agree with KC TAN - that social bookmarking is a sub-part of SEO. I am very impressed how Neil Patel ( www.pronetadvertising.com ) - is one of the top SEO now and for this he prefers the Social Media Marketing method. He is regarded as the best in SMM. I also thing SEO consists of lots of things - not just meta-tags and link building. At present I am experimenting with one of my site - where I installed lots of blogs on different niches and adding as much unique content as I can. I am participating in social networking/media sites like reddit/digg/propeller with these articles. On the other hand - I am building links very slowly - Only time will tell how effective this method will be.
Socxial bookmarking is a great way for those with lower budgets. But even if you have thousands of $$ to spend, it will remain as a very viable way to get some additional traffic and a link back to your site.
jhnrang is right. Social Bookmarking is a part of SEO. Just like forum posting, directory listings, and blog posting, social bookmarking establishes a series of backlinks. The great thing about SB is that you can bookmark all of your subpages giving you deep links which google likes to see because it provides a more natural pattern since google thinks that a good website would have inner pages that people like just as much as the homepage. To only focus on links to the homepage, looks unnatural and google won't believe all of the links are honest. I guess the real question is what do you mean by which is better? When you say SEO are you saying Link building SEO (because that includes SB) If you mean Onsite SEO then I would say work on Onsite SEO first since it's an easier fix and less time consuming and then spend the rest of your time using Off site tactics like Linkbuilding. Hope that helps.
If you were to do nothing but Social Bookmarking, you site would be a total failure. This has been asked and answered many times. Social bookmarking is a small part of SEO work. It can bring you quick but very useless traffic. If the key is to show traffic stats and nothing else, social bookmarking can do that. If you are looking to make a successful long term site, of course you need to do some quality SEO. From my experience, social bookmarking has a conversion rate of much lower than 1%. Most is click through traffic at best and normally very untreated. It can increase links (if they offer do follow), which help in SEO and it can help build traffic stats from sites like Alexa. However, those alone will not sustain a website.
