Social bookmarking links

My question is about the effect social bookmarking has on google ranking positions.

Lets assume that a social bookmarking site is do-follow.

If I get a link on that site (i.e. someone bookmarks me) then that is good. If 20 people bookmark my site on that social bookmarking site does google see this as ONE link or TWENTY?

Nope as most of the social bookmarking sites are no follow links anyway !

if 20 people get bookmarked your story, most probably chance to get your story on main page. so short it can be 20 links if google regularly visiting those 20 user profiles.

But even if they are no-follow, some of your tags do come up in searches which leads to a good chance your site will be visited.

 

agree with everyone here.. they are purely for generating traffic and not really SEO.. but in reality.. SEO generates traffic as well.. so its good to diversify between SEO, and direct traffic generation

 

Actually no, you won't have 20 links, you'll have more. One for each user profile and one for each category/tag. So a Social Bookmark site that doesn't use no-follow is good for backlinks, which is good for SEO. Unfortunately most Social Bookmark sites use no-follow, but there are some that don't.

 

So what would happen if social bookmarking links do not use nofollow?

Don't listen to these guys. They don't know what they are talking about. If you know what you are doing you will find several social bookmarking sites that do not use nofollow. I was very successful in raising my PR from getting backlinks from these sites. A couple months ago I tried to create a bunch of backlinks to my site from these sites and now my blog is pr 3 and all the backlinks are from this social bookmarking site. I won't say which sites I used but good luck anyways.

 

I can't speak to how they affect PR but the traffic from social bookmarking sites typically doesn't covert very well. I have a game on my website that typically has a CPM of ~$7.50. One day it got 4,800 extra visits from stumbleupon and that brought the CPM down to ~$2.30
