quantity rules in SB...but quality matters in ranking..

how many of you go to social bookmarking sites to read something..very important ?

- it can help in indexing but it definately pushes you towards spam and is not long term according to me..

Social Networks are the new revolution of the Internet, and a lot of Marketing efforts will be put into that from now on.

 

The "nofollow" on social bookmarking sites doesn't matter. Anytime I've had a good article or webpage get picked up by a social bookmarking sites, I end up getting a bunch of links from independent websites and blogs, because the social bookmarking sites send a bunch of visitors to the good page (as more and more people keep recommending it as they get sent to it) and many of those people end up linking to it from their own websites or blogs.

 

Social bookmarking can be a source of traffic but some use them for spam.

This is the problem with it though when it becomes a marketing tool for just webmasters the original purpose is ruined. Regular people who are not webmasters will eventually get sick of all the spamming and marketing.

That's probably the most major concern. However, I think social bookmarking sites have the potential to overcome it, due to their ability of self-moderating. Generally, lame sites don't get far in social bookmarking because for a site to do well it has to be rated well by a lot of people. So, as far marketing goes, social bookmarking will only work for viral marketing and introducing a great site to the public. In other words, at a good social bookmarking site, webmasters will only be able to market a website that their demographic wants to see.

Also, as social bookmarking sites become more advanced, they will be able to give more weight to natural ratings/bookmarks as opposed to those from webmasters and interested parties. For example, StumbleUpon may be able to figure out when you are submitting a site, or giving a thumbs up to a site that you just happened to stumbleupon.

Yup I agree. There are a lot of people now using hidden proxy to open multiple accounts and bookmariking their own site.
