I've been using social bookmarking methods on some of my micro niche websites and unfortunately it hasn't really brought much traffic at all. I have noticed good search engine ranking improvements, but my main focus was to drive some targeted traffic to my site. Are these results typical?

Try to rank top 3 for some of the highly targeted keyword in Google and you will see the difference. Usually, new sites will gather low traffic in the beginning, but able to get more traffic if you continue to add links to active in social bookmarks (with more friends and larger network).
