im still a newbie but i see that there are many services that offer stuff like Package 6:Submission to 2000 Directories+50 Social Bookmarking for a couple dollars on the spot. Some say they will do it within a Month etc. Does anyone know if submitting that many directories and social bookmarking will hurt my sites in seo? hence (site spamming) rumor has it. Any help with be great. also since im a noob i dont know the difference between the two, directory submission vs. social bookmarking? is there a big difference and does one way more than the other? thanks again.
It's a gamble, but for the most part "NO" your site will not be hurt. There are determining factors, such as the age of your domain, if the domain is less than 2 years old then sometimes building links to quickly will get your site in the sandbox. If your site doesn't already have value or a trust relationship with the search engines then you may also be in jeopardy of being sandboxed. My SEO advice has always been to focus on quality of links and not the quantity of links. You can have 20 links from good neighborhoods, strong trust relationships, and great page value which will do your site much more better than 1000 links from directories, farms, low or no page value, etc. Don't get me wrong I myself buy these packages for my websites and manually submit to a massive amount of directories, but I also have different goals and I know what I am doing. The truth is, if you manually had your website submitted to 1000+ directories in one day, the links are not going to appear instantly, it will take time to get approved and this lapsed time actually makes it seem like you are building links naturally. Also, 1000 links is not a huge amount of links...it may not even trip any alarms and the search enignes won't notice a huge change. Proceed with caution... Best of luck!
I think they both give you a backlink. You may see some traffic from them but mostly back link. Unless your story comes to very high rank on social bookmarking site like digg or netscape.
You can submit to 1k or more directories or social bookmarking sites.But the main thing is that u have to make them slow enough (spread over one month) and use different titles.
in my experience, offers like "Social Bookmarking 1000+ Directory Submissions" are mostly useless . if you want to submit your site to social bookmark sites, DO IT YOURSELF if you want to submit your site to directories, DO IT YOURSELF

I dont know the difference in value amongst the two. I have read that article submissions beat both? Still new to the game. but im learning thanks to you all.
It doesn't hurt in the sense that it must be done not in fast acquisition a day of the links from social bookmarkings and directories... If done in fast way it will hurt and Google knows who does it in fast building links...
