Soccer blog - 250 visits a day, earns leass than 5$ a month

My soccer blog gets 250 visits a day, sometimes more than 500 visits if there's a football game the previous day. But few clicks, and only earing less than 5$ a month.

Ironically, my photo blog (more photos less words!) with an average visits of 180 gets more clicks and earnings of 8 to 10$ a month.

Both sites have similar ad placement.

hi i visited and commented on both sites, its pretty disencouraging that a 800 000th by traffic website makes only $5 a month, with so many updates, a lot of work for very little.

    Thanks for the response.

My photo blog is targeted to Philippine users, and advertisers from the Philippines spends little money on ads, and I could understand that. But a soccer blog with a wider audience only gets few clicks, even with more visits than my photo blog.

Thats not good conversion at all , Soccer blogs are not the best earners anyway but they would usually earn more than that, although i cant remember the last time i had a soccer site on 250 unqiues per day .Ive only got 2 soccer sites left now out of the 30 i used to have , I sold one recently that had on average 1000 uniques per day and that was earning around $350 a month though adsense but that was really quite high for a soccer site on adsense, I would expect you to be earning at least $100 per month from 250 uniques per day though.

The only thing i can think of is that your traffic isnt targeted, or they are hitting your site , not liking what they are seeing and leaving , a study of google analytics's will give you ideas one whats happening

Ive just looked at the blog and although i didnt look past the first 3 articles i would say its because there is no real content , the posts are short and not really worth reading , not only that but because the posts are short it then looks like there is ads everywhere.

If i was you i would take a close look at getting more content on there , maybe a reshuffle of the ads so they dont get in the way but at the same time are in prime positions. There is alot you can do to make that better with a little experimenting , Content is you main thing imo at the moment though

musta po, as said above get more content or maybe upload some video clips of big games to y0utube with your sites links on it to gain more traffic this way you should think like the average web surfer and what ads are more relevant for them to be interested in.

If I were you, I'd immediately start testing different layouts, themes and so on.

Is it okay if you could share us (or me by PM) the soccer site that gets 1000 visits a day? Maybe I could learn or be inspired from it.

It was a very niche part specific soccer blog focusing on a specific subject which has very little competition even today so im afraid i wont be sharing the URL to risk the new owner loosing the traffic i worked hard to get . But i can say that it wasnt anything special . Good content that most football fans would take the time to read , adsense ads not all over the place but in prime positions and the "right" size ad blocks . Plus it also earnt around the same amount from the goviral network too which you might want to experiment with once you get some good content.

Which page is getting the most traffic? Your layout for the homepage is good for the user but not an advertiser. Try replacing the top Link Unit with a wide leaderboard. The narrow rectangles are useless where they aren't where anyone will naturally look. If you want to keep them there then make them stand out. Users won't accidently click them so make them read them. Blue links would be my first try with those ones.

In the actual article I would put the bottom ad-unit before the related posts. I would repalce the top ad unit with another 336x280. Try your different colours too.

Also, your links aren't relevent where I am but we aren't soccer mad.

I changed the colours to check if it improves the clicks. Thanks everyone for your inputs!

Just visited your blog. There's nothing wrong with the blog per se. Usually if a CTR is that low it's mainly because ads are not well targeted. In other words if I am looking for information about a soccer match, but the ads are about sports in general or some vacation deals in Barcelona, I will probably not be interested in them.

The only solution to this is to either get even more traffic or to try to make ads more targeted.

Your colours still blend in. It does look good but if you are after adsense clicks they'll need to stand out more than what they are. If you are going to play with colours try pure blue (0000FF) or red (FF0000).

The positions are in places that will just get skimmed over. They are fine if you only want the odd click but if adsense is your main money making method you need to be more bold.

The text ads are kinda mixed up, maybe because of the keywords of places and countries in the articles and links.
