SOA Required For Nameservers?

    Hi,

    I am curious. Is an SOA required for a nameserver to be valid? Is there some kind of online checker or validator? I thought that all a nameserver needed to be valid was to be registered (created) at the registrar and be linked to and resolve to an IP address (via an A-record I believe).
