So you want to make your own search engine?

I thought I might take a little time out to really write some information about launching your own search engine. I see so many people on here using some generic search script hoping to make a big; the reality of the matter is you most likely won’t. H

owever nothing is stopping you from trying so I will give you some insights into the development of MSE360.com, a search engine I work on. MSE360 is growing extremely fast, but even now its future is not set in stone. The first thing you need to set out when deciding to make a search engine is, do you have the time?

A few hours after work isn’t going to cut it, you need to be able to tweak the system and speak to users as much as you can, if you can’t allocate the time then you might as well give up. Next you need to understand the resources and costs involved, even Meta search engines can take up a lot of resources.

MSE360 has been lucky when it comes to costs, but still it’s something which will crop up a lot. Start small, start on a niche or a gap in the search market then work your way up to being the next big G.

Next point, you need to be unique. Don't try and use the same ol' Google style with same ol' Google features, think of things that would help YOu when you are searching.

Ok thats it for now, plenty more soon.

I own a rather large search engine and I really need to say its all about marketing and releasing custom apps that the other engines don't have. Search Results are also key.

    Also,
searchia I think you spelled discover wrong in your sig :)
