    Are you drunk or what?

FileSonic is up everywhere, but you can not share files.
You can only download files you uploaded yourself.

Dont understand their issue. Move the servers out of the U.S. MU had servers there and therefore was unser ther jurisdiction. Thaddle is moving their servers outside the u.s. as we speak. i will give tehm a try. Seem Solid.

That could work, but I don't think the FBI have jurisdiction when it comes to addressing copyright issues pertaining to US citizens.

So they can still expect to get shutdown if they get too high profile and "pay publishers for copyright content".

U.S. jurisdiction is dictated by the contract made. For internet the contract point is the location of the servers. However if you run redundant servers in U.S. that to allows the U.S. to intervene. Important to keep any U.S. jurisdiction away from your business. We run servers out of Sweden. White Mountain. They are very good about anti SOPA issues. However, that being said. no one is bullet proof. For example, the Sports betting industry had servers in Costa Rica for years, however they TARGETED customers from the U.S. That put them in U.S. Jurisdiction. Plus Costa Rica is a lapdog for the U.S. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Thaddle is a social network bt they offer many other services rather than file sharing, all free. We had files in their servers, They have moved offshore and will be back online with all original files 1 Feb. Their affiliate program works well also, although a bit different from MU and Fileshre

makes no sense, the megaupload takedown was the result of cooperation of several countries with FBI, including HK and Dutch officials. Here is an extract from the US Depatment of Justice press release:

    here's the full release.

moreover, the SOPA bill is designed to be implemented through 4 years. we are now witnessing just an inception phase and already have megaupload taken down and other major filehosts shaking in fear. You can imagine the extent of international cooperation over some time as the bill gains the real strength and transforms into a law...so... I guess there is no sense in where the filehost is located/registered....

Those are cooperating agencies with the FBI investigation. The FBI had jurisdiction due to the location of the servers. Had the servers not been in the U.S. then U.S. Law would not be at hand, However they were and under internationl treaties they FBI was able to have support from the other countries listed in the indictment. That is not to say that the other countries would not have investigated and placed charges, but in this Case, the U.S. is the lead agency. The money Lundering laws also come in to play. Years ago the anti money laundering laws were put in place to counter the drug trafficing issues. Countries aggreed to these laws and now they are being applied outside of the original intent, but that is another issue. So you understand, money laundering does not now have to involve drug monies or terrorost monies. Any money derived from a criminal act can be construed ad Money Laundering. The US DOJ uses that to sieze all moneis but the affected enterprise. with no money, good legal representation is very difficult. So, advise of ur attornys was simple, Keep your servers and web hosting out of the U.S. With tha, we are now in the jurisdiction of Sweden. Their laws are very different, as seen by wikileaks.

    Again....
It doesnt matter where the servers are actually located.
EG. if you pirate a Hollywood movie in ANY country (except Iran + North Korea etc.), the movie is protected via international copyright treaties.

Any US government office and/or the copyright holder can begin proceedings in any country to nail your ass and/or nail file hosters ass.

Good Example. Pirate Bay, Swedish law, not U.S. although copyrighted materials were from U.S. media Giants. But not prosecuted in U.S. Sentences were much lighter...fines much lighter...different law. Why? Servers were no tin U.S. Not to say your ass wont end up in jail with offshore servers. Just not with the U.S. DOJ and their tactics. good read, Joining Club Fed.

I would agree with haleron.... but if a filehost in Sweden would let free distribution of pirated US content - that would be breach of copyright anyway. I doubt that Sweden would object if US officials asked for assistance in protecting the rights of US citizens.
ANd yes I agree with randomnick - there always will be international copyright treaties in place.

Best not to do anything and wait till the storm has blown over, personally I am going back to earning with adsense until this mess sorts itself out.

Whatever you do those that upload hollywood movies and music are threatening the closure of all hosts so look after whats left when the dust has settled.

Whatever it may be but "Willy" is a gentleman while others (Hish, MARCO etc) turned to be scammers. Filesonic may have closed the service with dignity like Wupload or 4shared.
