So I run a website which gets around 100 UV/day. So this guy emailed me that he wants to know my resume and wants to know all details of my site like ranks, daily visits, etc. because he has a job for me. What should I do? Should I mail him all the details? He might be a competitor trying to know all the details. What is the risk? I'm looking forward to earn some extra cash if it is safe.
Well if it's a competitor and he know whats he doing, he would probably be able to get that info anyway. There are many tools on the web that could get you all the information. I know spyfu is a company that lets you spy on your competitors. I say go ahead send him the info, just don't give him any personal info. -Zeke
First thing you should do is Google the content of the email (one sentence at a time), and make sure it hasn't been sent to thousands of other people. Ask what the job involves, and what the pay is FIRST. Then send him your stats.
Never ever EVER give out your personal information like that unless you can verify who they are. Sure, this guy may not be asking for much, but there's no way I'd email my web stats to a complete stranger. There's just too many scammers out there in internet land, and who knows what their intentions are? I wouldn't take the risk.
The only thing that he could benefit from is you telling him what keywords you are getting good traffic from, but as said before if he does his research then he could find it another way instead. If i was you then i would send him the normal stuff like unique visitors etc but i wouldnt be showing him any kind of stats relating to how much traffic you get through certain keywords. Its not hard to knock long tail keywords off target if your traffic is coming from them
Ask him what the job entitles, what he is paying, and most of all.. why he needs this information! Unless he has a great reason for acquiring this information, do not give it to him. There are so many scams out there, that you shouldn't really just give out any information to anyone. Most importantly, don't give him the keywords you are targeting. If he is a competitor, this is exactly what he is looking for.
I agree with Kerosene - ask him the purpose of his inquiry and get more details. Don't just send you peronal info to somebody you don't know. After you have the facts, then you can make a more informed decision as to whether or not you want to proceed.
I thinks it's cool as long as you dont give him some password and email,.. for traffic, alexa, that just ok,.
Im gonna have to go with @Kerosene ask him what the job is, the pay, and why he needs any of this when he can find it on Alexa? Hope this helps!
Someone just sent you e-mail saying: "Send me all info about your site, I have a job for you" ? I wouldn't reply to that.
