I have to disagree with this part. My older sister's computer programming job just got outsourced to India. Scarcely a job no one wants.

That said, I'll admit to being one of those people who paid for college on her own. Only help my mother gave me was that I could live with her while I was in school. I paid for all my classes, no loans, no grants. I worked part time the entire time I was in college. It meant it took longer for me to graduate, but I made it.

I don't think of people who get Pell grants as getting something for nothing. The students I found who had the worst attitude toward school were the ones whose parents paid for everything.

 

We should spend that money building schools in Iraq or maybe building more prisons.

For the most part people who are getting financial aid for school, are trying to better themselves, I'm not sure if quite qualifies for sucking the "tit"

If we need to save money by denying people the "tit" there are probably better places to start then student loans, etc

I meet "college" grads often. Unemployed or not working in their field. Therefore, they don't or can't pay their loans. Oh and dumb as rocks!

Or fill whatever profession, college is way over blown, and there are tons of bullshit degrees and half ass students, but most people who get student aid are poor. If you are young and still on your parents tax return, and they make like combined income of like $50,000 you don't get shit.

Most people who get pell grants, and I would have to look this up are over 25 and poor, Like I was when I went to school.

I would say in my personal experience that most people over 25 and poor, going to college, arn't there to throw frisbees, or go to keg parties, or get degrees in Womans studies, or liberal arts.

They are usually there to take whatever class will increase their income.

 

In sweden you don't have to take a loan for doing education, it's free + 150$/month (because you study) + 300$/month (If your campus is more than 30 miles from your parents home) + 200$/month (if your family earns less than 20.000$(don't know exactly but something like that) a year)

 

This is a fun pissing match. But I did see this on TV to. However I'm not 100% clear on what I read.

I think the money is being taken away because the requirements to get it are stricter. The poor students won't get money and fill seats. They will have to perform to get the money.

I bet if there are enough performers, they will increase the budget. But there's nothing wrong with making folks earn the money be proving they are deicated capable students.
