so many keywords

hi guys

i have an auction site like ebay an im conffused what keywords to put in the meta tag

with an auction site there are thousands of products users can list


do i need to list them all in the tag

or go for site specific ones like 'no listing fees' 'buy' 'sell' 'auction'

or a mix of both

The major searchengines don't use the meta keywords in their algorithms any more so it doesn't really matter (some minor searchengines will though). But if you still want to add them enter your URL into Google's keyword tool and you can see what keywords Google thinks is relevant to your page. You can try adding new keywords in the meta keywords field, but it won't make a difference.

 

You need different keywords for different pages as there are multiple products on your website and that's why you can't accommodate all on a single page.

 

put those keywords which you want to target..

can you please tel me what does google index ? If it doesnt use meta keyword list.. please tell me..

 

you can use google wonder wheel to get more ideas about your keywords. it has helped me a lot when it comes to meta keywords

 

It will grab the keywords from the page itself. It's to easy to put keywords that are not relevant in the meta keywords, that's what webmasters used to abuse. By using Google's keyword tool they're telling you the relevant keywords (should be the default settings). BTW a lot of times it's not the keyword you think you're optimizing it for unless you've done it right.

Yes < that is always what I heard. More importance is given to titles (on page) Content (on page), backlinks (off page) of course the longer the site has been up the better and having at least 5 to 10 pages also helps.

If I understand the original poster on setting up meta tags/description for his auction like site I think he would be best hitting on auction related keywords:

online auction
marketplace
selling

and perhaps some general categories like

Digital Cameras
Laptops
LCD televisons
