I also think blog commenting might be helpful to increase traffic. But I have a question, how shall I create these links?Shall I only write my webpage while posting the comment in the homepage area, so the visitors can go to my website by clicking my name, or shall I write a word or phrase that links to the page of my site related to the topic of discussion?Which one is better?

Leaving comments on blogs, especially high traffic blogs can be hugely beneficial in generating traffic to your site. I read about a girl who posted a comment on Problogger.net and it happened to be the first comment, she then proceeded to get about 250 visits that day just from the comment, not bad.

Of course you should be relevant and post something worthwhile, but definitely a good place to get links, and traffic.

Is it helpful if you are only commenting for backlinks and don't care about the traffic? I know that sounds odd but my product is local so getting traffic from around the country is nice and all but doesn't do me any good, right? I just want the backlinks to help with seo in general. Will that work?

Yes, leaving a relevant blog comment is a legit way to build a backlink (dofollow) but it's also depend on the popularity of blog. I suggest to leaving a relevant post link on our blog as our URL instead of an URL only.
