So,I'm 17, and i wanna make a Web-Comic!I have great ideas but i have some questions

    1) Is there an AGE-Restriction for starting a business like this? You know, like a a site and everything.

    2) I was thinking of using Wordpress as a Web-Host and as a software provider since most Web-hosts around seem to be unreliable.. am i making a good choice, considering the emphasis on a Web-Comic?

    3) Are Web-Comics a good Business? I mean, how much money would you make it out of it in general? I'm a pretty good artist and i very am committed into what i love doing, so finding a way to making money out of it would be great.

I only have a maximum 100$ budget to start. Thanks in advance:)

    Hey,

I actually read quite a few web comics and so I have some ideas to throw your way!

    1. Age-restrictions are based on how you wish to monetize the site. If you sell a product your country may have laws about how that operates. Google adsense have their own TOS and you'll need to check those. Alternatively you can sell ad space to individuals which is often better for comic sites such as yours as it means you can pick and choose what gets shown and also make sure it fits the artistic direction.

    2. Wordpress could be a viable option, some of the themes out there could definitely be used (with minor modifications) for a web comic. However, I'd advise getting your own web-hosting plan to host it on as this gives you greater independence which you will appreciate in the future, as well as web hosting space.

    3. Web-Comics can be great, people might read them everyday when they wake up and so you can build up traffic. As always where there is traffic there is money so if you can effectively monetize then you can make some money. But I'd give one comment and that is be sure you know if you're doing it for pleasure or for money - each has a different mind set and will dictate how you operate.

Thanks for replying:) BTW, I'm in Canada, and in the region i live in i'll be an adult at the age of 19. I was exactly thinking of the idea of selling ad spaces! So, practiaclly there isn't one fixed law for legal ages..it depends form site-to-site contracts..

Yep, the law really revolves around your local jurisdiction and there aren't normally laws against minors making contracts, but they are difficult/impossible to enforce and therefore companies protect themselves with terms and conditions excluding those under the legal age.

You need to be 18 to sign a legally binding contract in the United States. This makes it difficult to sign up for advertising programs without your parents consent. Outside of that you should be okay.

A lot of people who are new to earning online are usually around 16 youngest. Well, most of them give their SSN because companies don't really have the time to verify your age, then they put in that your 18. But generally yes, it is illegal in some ways.

When you say 18, you mean worldwide age or just the U.S.? I mean, how can a government or company know from where you're from if you got a .com site, and if you travel alot, meaning that IPs location probably wouldn't be counted?

I started making $$$ at 14, just sign up to PayPal using your parents details, and then you do the work. Works great for me.

Wordpress is used by many comic sites. There is a wordpress template specifically for comics. It is mindfaucet.com/comicpress/

Also you can make money through a site called project wonderful, which a lot of comic sites use to make money and advertise their sites.

I don't know much about comics but to answer your first question; don't let age get in the way!
I'm 16 myself and that hasn't stopped me from what I love doing! Just get someone older to register services such as domain + adsense for you ;)

I would reccomend you godaddy, there very reliable and have good support. I use them and there brilliant, I sometimes hear bad things about godaddy but can never understand why as they are brilliant for me. As for your idea it sounds great. have you thought of using feedburner so people can subscribe to your site and get the comics emailed to there inbox when you post one on your site?
