So I upgraded my server...

Moving away from that shared hosting crap. Upgraded to a V-Ded there should not be any downtime as I will be able to transfer all my stuff over before pointing domain names. Also the new Vded is with the same company

    My question is this.

Will the change of IP address and server space effect my SERP's? I mean google does like V-Ded or even better fully dedicated over shared hosting. But are there any precautions I need to think about before the migration?

Google doesn't care about either of those factors. They can't tell what is just a shared host from a full server.

The change of Server will not effect you SEO in anyway.

There should not be any problem during the upgrade. Go ahead with it.

You should be fine in regards to the changes and your SEO methods.

You should be fine in regards to the changes and your SEO methods. There are a few cases where a new IP had been associated with a link farm or something of that nature in the past. It is a highly unlikely scenario but probable.

well I think the best answer is it depends. For normal the change of an IP should not effect your ranking that much but if you are switching hosts to often Big G might get suspicious. Of course bad neighborhood is an other fact to consider as mentioned before.

In general there are mainly obvious things to consider when switching a host not matter if you switch from a VPS to a dedi or from shared to VPS. Of course it eases things for you if you are running the same user interface on your VPS like you had with your shared hosting which is in most cases cPanel. Also you will need a backup not only of the files but as well of the databases (VPS can be copied to other nodes which makes things easier).

Yes, he was right. Altot the changing IP will not effect anything but if you keep changing from A - Z then you are bringing yourself some problem.

thanks for all the info everyone. Ive made the direct copy and loaded the database, sites working 100% fine so far. I was just worried because my SERPs are up by over 2000% according to my google webmaster tools, and I really dont want to see that go down.. I guess we will find out soon enough when I point over the domain to the new vded IP address.

Just make sure that your website structure should be same which you have in shared hosting. Otherwise reindex in Google will take few days.
