Is your site indexed? if it is, then obviously it has one backlink.. hehe unless you submitted it, of course.
Directories with pr 2-4 are a safe bet while directories with higher pr may be on the verge of being penalised with their heavy promotion, you can't be sure of this of course unless you know googles exact criteria for penalties and check all the thousands of backlinks a site has.
Strange! reading this topic, i went back to my Directory, and it seemed to have gained PR Not complaining but this is the second time! i bought this domain in June! It went PR0 in early August And now PR3! (and it seems only select few pages have gained PR! latest and popular pages dropped from PR0 to PR-1 ) Any tips, what to do? M.
I would term: Decent PR as PR1 to PR2 range now for directories, Good PR as PR3 range now for directories, VERY good PR as PR4 range now for directories, VERY VERY good PR for PR5 directories, EXCELLENT PR for PR6 directories, MIND BLOWING PR for PR7 directories.
My gaming site jumped in serps from position 4 to position 2 for main keyword and pr dropped from pr4 to pr2. I am not surprised since most of backlinks are from directories, but serps are better than ever and I am sure directories are not devalued in any way.
i think that it is a recognized fact that PR is gaining less importance in assessing the quality of a directory. Of course it is still a considering factor, but other things like content and traffic are slowly outweighing PR in importance. Sure, it is disappointing to see my directories drop in PR, but i'm glad that my submitters continue to see the value provided to them despite the drop
Well said jl255, I couldn't agree any more, content and traffic will in the very near feature outweigh the Pagerank system, it is a question, would you rather let a system rate your web site or would you let a user rate it for you? Pagerank might be one of the important factors around us webmasters, though, I can assure you most 'web users' do not even have any toolbar showing pagerank, making the system completly anonymous. I think this is a good thing for the directory industry as a whole. There was TOO MUCH emphasis on PR. Also too many links by too many owners were acquired at a high cost for very little else then that green bar. When is the last time the green bar clicked an ad or bought a product / service through an affiliate or made a submission? You need to be indexed getting traffic and quality search results. If anything this "penalty" has been a friendly wake up call to directory / resource owners to start focusing on what's important and not that little green bar which does have its place but it's much less of the equation then many thought. What's important is having lots of quality content that is pulled via search engines along with listings. Preferably have the content on the directory pages. That being said is there a mod where at the bottom or top of the category I can have a box where I can enter say a paragraph with hyper links and images if I wish as well as html formatting in general. If done properly this would really help build the usefulness and relevance of all categories. And ... yes I'm saying it even maybe start to make directories "fun" again.
phpld 3.x allows articles just like that and they are placed in relevant categories. Or perhaps you could have the link description modified to allow html code (if it doesn't already, never tried)?
I would say a PR5 must now be considered something special... anything above is something spectacular. Directory Rate got a PR3 in this, its first PR update, not quite up to the standard of the Journal...
I totally agree with your assessment. Time has changed and this new PR structure not only effect directories but blogs as well.
i miss another pr update!now i know when pr is update.every time i am traveling abroad.i got pr5 for my travel site,pr4 for my biding directory(it should be 5 if it was the update 5 days later) and pr4 for my island directory. quite good i believe if you can imagine that lot of categories with pr3 are empty!
lol no worries ... a site of mine which less than 10 people know about ... i have got a pr 2 ... it is not even launched lol ... it was underconstruction long long time ago and i didn't work on it anymore.. pathetic it is ... just like seomoz's PS ... PR went shitty also.
It is pretty easy to get a PR2 I think you only need one decent PR3 links and pretty much any PR4 link does it too. When you get to PR4 it seems to get a bit harder. It is possible Gooogle went back to a bit of a tougher algorithm too.
smub I agree with You when I make my directories I was looking on websites like Your but now when PR on Your directories is lower then PR6 my PR6 directories looks strange for me - im lucky or im really good on this??
Some Thing i noticed that if your any page that have PR if turn deindexed will loose PR imidiatly. MY sites page Reference has got Pr4 but todat it is deindexed and lost PR. So i think when it become Indexed it will gain PR.
