The best for link building is article submission to ezine, etc.

Or make your own blogs with SENuke and link back from them.

I also agree with that, never give up, takes times and the rewards are always there provided you work at it.

I am old fashioned and i prefer three way linking.

I use all of these methods and have actually started to hire employees from odesk.com to take over some of them for me.

Article marketing, social bookmarking, press releases, blog commenting - forum signatures are OK as long as they are on relevant forums.

I have my own high PR link finding method and this has worked great for me. I have sold links so far but have not used them on my own websites.

I have noticed a boost from directory submissions, I guess it is a matter of choosing the right directories though.

I prefer article syndication, press releases, and of course forum posting. LOL link begging also tends to do pretty well.

google prefers natural link building and from what I am reading in the responses to your request it appears many webmasters use a number of diffferent methods. I have not found a "best" method and I don't really believe there is one best method. The proper use of anchor text from a related or relevant site of a high pr would appear to be one of the best methods. Whether that be in a directory- not in my opinion, or a blog-very good if you can get it without paying for it, or forum signatures- not so much in my opinion or article writing of a good, strong unique nature - has worked well for me but I enjoy writing. Word to the wise- get your links from as many sources as google does occasionally change its mind on what it prefers. Stop looking for the "best" as I don't think it will be the best for very long thanks to sites like this- and I learn a great deal here although you need to read a lot of different opinions before you get to the likely answer. Don't go by an opinion because it sounds good, or a lot of people agree with it. Do your homework, read a lot, ask a lot of questions and you will find there are no "bests" in seo. If there are they may not be posted here. Remember some people are here to sell you things. That is cool, you just need to know the difference between salesmanship and opinion. Both are worth as much as you pay for them.
