So did Google do away with PR or something?

Been about 6 months or so since the last PR update. Which is ironic since the PR predicters were predicting PR6 pages on most of my sites and then Google decided not to update.

Several sources seem to claim that Google stopped using PR, and that they will introduce some new algortihm that they talked about at one conference.

Btw, what PR predicting sites are you using?

    David,

If your site is high quality, i dont see any reason to think about that stupid Green bar. Your Search engine ranking wont change just because we see a Green bar on your page. The PR anyways changes at google, you just dont see it.

Think logically and you will find ur answers. I hope you are not in link selling business which has PR as its main menu dish :D

    It is interesting though.

If you think of Google's main goal: connecting users with content...

While linking to pages is a good source of data to determine a site's importance, I wonder if they will start adding more value to content. Examples I am thinking of: number of times content was added in a given interval, number of visitors after new content was added, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is highly unlikely they will ever take away the linking component, but I can definately see added value being placed on the content side.

    Thoughts?

Very good points. I like and love the idea of content sites should be given more preference over scammed MFA linkbait sites.

In today's ideal world, people can buy links and screw up with other better sites. Seriously, if google wants to improve their SE, they seriously need to favour sites with content and not linkbait sites

The funny and ironic thing is that people who makes such statements have dead sites. Keep hating the system while we grow... it only helps us :D

The only reason that I think that PR is important, is so I can get more opportunities on PayPerPost. Other than that, I focus more on content.

One thing google could do is add time spent on site, data which they could gather from their Web Analytics service. It would drive more webmasters to it. :p Evil marketing plan.

trichnosis: I doubt they are doing paid links. They already have ads displayed high up.
