I'm trying hard to learn SEO for my business website and getting frustrated of reading/hearing everywhere that "Content is Key". I have a small tour business and my goal is mainly being found for people typing "tours in my location" in search engines. It's like every youtube video and article about SEO only have blogs in mind! I'm not a content writer, I'm a tour guide! Does Google expect me to become an expert writer about my location just to rank well? Sure, I try to have better pictures than anyone else, that's content, but google doesn't see that does it? What can a simple small business website do to rank better than other small simple websites of the competition? What is the correct way to think about "content" in such websites?
Google does see pics. Give your pics appropriate title. And no you do not need to be a brilliant writer, you only need to write what you know. your opinions, experiences are your own, that is unique. unique posts do well. just keep on writing. add people, follow them, engage in conversations. That'll help. when your content is real... your content is good.
Keep on writing where? Is is mandatory to have a blog on any business website? Or are you referring to social media, guest blogging in other websites, etc?
Hi Miguel, I agree with FemaleAdda, place a blog page on your site and write about your tours. You could start out by posting one article a week and increase your posts as time permits. Just be sure to let your audience know how frequently you're going to post and be consistent.
Your "content" can be testimonials, photos from tours, announcements about changes to your tour schedule. You don't need to have a blog but you could add one and blog about events in your area (and while you're here, do one of my tours) festivals (ditto) local government changes that influence your tour locations eg funds put into beautification, preservation of natural reserves, church refurbishments You'll have more going on that you realise - and those blog posts don't have to be long and wordy, in fact, short and sweet is good.
Nothing is mandatory. it helps. Having a blog on your site helps a lot. These arent different.. write blogs, engage in conversations online anywhere you can find. Find time to do most activities. If not hire someone else to do it for you. dont worry about "content" as long as you being genuine.
Didn't you use to rely on mountains of brochures and the advice of a travel agent before booking any holiday or tour? Now a days I think most of us base it around what other people say. Working out a way to share and promote user generated content across your website and social channels is a good way to go. You could always hire a writer.
Thank you all for the responses. Most of you think that having a blog on my website does add value, so I guess I'm taking that advise. Any suggestions on this? After the tours I ask clients to post feedback on Tripadvisor, because I think that's way more important than any social media reviews. I have tripadvisor widgets in all my tour pages because I do get some very good reviews and I want people to know that. Anything else I could do?
Since yours is a tour website then your content is stuff about touring, right? Highlight interesting places, use attractive images. There are so many ways that you can make content is king a proverb to live by. If you're in a hurry, you can always pair these methods with bought traffic like from ultimatewebtraffic or traffmasters to get things going. That's what we did for our merchant website last time.
I was faced with this problem in the past. What solution did I find? I created a blog related to my niche that was attached to my online shop. Think about what problems your clients face and try to blog about them. Don`t get discouraged. I`m not a content creator and I`m not even a native English speaker.
Like in every business, you need to excel at something. If your pictures are really good as you portray them, start building your Instagram account. After you have enough followers, you can funnel them to your website bringing in more traffic.
