So if I were to sell links on my website, not using TextAdLinks. Is that against any Google rules. Lot a link sales going on here... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58 I'd like to get in on some of that action if I wasn't worried about getting banned by the SERPS.
You could get a penalty. My opinion is to make sure it looks natural. Only to sites related to your niche and contextualise it so that it is in text related to your topic. Make it so that if someone looks at it, they can't be sure its sold.
You may consider cloaking any paid links to make them look like a natural domain link. That should do it. Regards, Tony
I think I am just going to do it. I have hundreds of links out of my site and its never hurt me before. I'm not running a directory site I am running a Tech site, if Lifehacker can have a million links out why can't I? I think I will limit it to stuff related to my genre, of course seemingly I have seen a lot of sites like mine so I might have a hard time selling links.
I do not get the whole selling links because of your pagerank thing... If you really want money.. sell ads on your site, they get the added benefit of your pagerank.. and you get so much more money. Selling little text links is useless and not worth anybodys time... Sell adspace... not "link space"
When I purchase link/banner space I dont care what the PR is... The thing I look for is traffic and where its coming from and where its going. Other than that, the site doesnt need to have any PR....
I started out with Adtoll in the beginning and set out to run my own ad program but they went down and it I had to replace all of their code again to keep my site from crashing. Believe it or not I get quite a bit of clicks to each one my "links" not sure why, I truly wasn't expecting that for a tech site and actually did quite well when I was in TextLinkAds, unfortunately Google scared everyone off that boat. Traffic and PR has gone hand in hand for me, but then again my site has been raising in popularity very quickly. Getting linkbacks from Downloadsquad and Lifehacker hasn't hurt any either. Not mention being regularly dugg (ugh I call it).
I think that it should not be openly declared that the link is being sold. Most directories openly sell the links and that is why they loose their rank and value.
