So I've heard Google tends to give more weight to old domains than new ones: new pages get indexed much faster, better rankings, etc. etc.

How about if the domain is 11 years old, but it has been dropped like month ago and someone puts up a new site.. isn't it like a new domain / site again in Googles eyes?

So if someone is looking for an aged domain and to really take advantage of it's age value, it should have never been dropped?

And how do I make sure it's never dropped? through whois?

    thanks.

Check the domain age via whois.sc, it goes off of the records not necessarily if it dropped. If they caught it before the registry was reset then it's "still aged"
