Snowboarding Anyone?

I'll be on the slopes for the next 10 days and before I go just wanted to check what stuff you did after you got fed up just cruising downhill. What sort of 'tricks'. I can ride fakey and jump around a little; if I'm not too rusty in the joints can probably do 180s but what else is there? What did you start doing when you got bored of just going straight ahead?

The big thing in Colorado is riding in the woods, or hiking to spots where there's fresh powder (both a PITA to me). My brother was a snowboard-bum for a few years in Breckenridge, I went out there a few times with him and his snowboarding gang.

I'm a skier, but stay away from the woods (don't want to pull a Sonny Bono). And if you ask me, hiking while on the slopes is stupid when you have a ski-lift. But I guess that's what you do when you can get on the slopes 90+ days a year.

I'm headed to Steamboat Springs tomorrow for 6 days of skiing, can't wait! They've had 310+ inches of snow this year, and we're supposed to get over a foot this week :D

Where I'm going is 80 cm, mostly powdery snow. There's about 20km prepared slopes but also 200km+ unprepared. That should be a laugh to hit but getting stuck in knee deep powder and then having to walk is a right pain indeed.

I hope to get some fresh powder, I love it. I'll have to see whether they have some obstacles, I'd like to try some simple boxes or jumps etc.

I was skiing last week, when I got bored I hit the bar.

    Where you off?

Tried my first off piste skiing in 1m snow - its all OK til you fall and then its a nightmare to stand up again!

LOL yeah the bar is always an option but I'd like to not waste too much time in them. Going to Chech Republic, Harrachov.

Too right on the off piste.. It's all great until snowboarding becomes surfing and you have to literally paddle your way back.

Expect a sore ass, knackered wrists and painful shins. And also a hell of a good time of course!

I've got this friend from Canada staying with me next week.

With any luck I'll be at her place next time ~ I *really* want to get back on the slopes...

Last year I went away with a couple of mates and we ended up having an awesome time on the training slope (It was their first time boarding)...

We built this *fairly* big ramp and just kept going over it...

It was a great way to get back into it after so long away from the slopes, and it was awesome practice for the bigger ramps up the hill.

I did hit a 2.5 metre high ramp on an indoor slope last year, which went surpisingly well. I don't whether this resort is actually a snowboard friendly place at all. In La Plagne in France they had boarder cross tracks and all that stuff like half-pipes which was fantastic fun. But having spent the last to years on my arse in the office, just regular boarding should be quite a feat for me already :)

I went to the castleford/leeds one. Seemed to be too much queueing for my liking.
