Alright, up for grabs is a site I really love, but I've decided to part with.

After a lot of thinking I've decided to let a few of my pet projects go. Sites that are doing well, but I haven't been able to dedicate enough time to.

My wife and I just had our first child this week, I'm doing a full University course load this semester, and I have bigger sites where I plan to focus what little time I do have available.

Great opportunity to pick up some established sites that have lots of potential for growth and improved monitization.

Anyways, the site is a forum for Super Nintendo. Collectors, game discussions, hacking etc.

I paid roughly $100-$150 for the domain a year or so ago. Since then I have done moderate link building, but more or lessv just let the site sit.

A lot of effort was put into building content in the first month or so, but since then my efforts have tapered off.

The sites regularly gets people who sign up and post for a week, but it's hard to keep them there when there are only a few people adding new content.

My suggestion at this point would be to consider some paid forum posts to get it rolling. A month or so of multiple users posting would get those random visitors doing the same. From there it should definitely pick up.

    Monetization:

Site has not been monetized in any way whatsoever. No Adsense, CPA, Affiliate Programs etc.

    Forum Specifics

Our users have posted a total of 349 articles
    We have 626 registered users

A lot of users were spambots. I've weeded out all the messages they've posted, but not gotten around to the users themselves. The off topic section got hit really hard until I added image vertification to the sign up process.

Site is running on phpBB and should be updated to the newest version. I can do this for the winner if requested.

Template is modified version of a free template from ForumTemplates.com
I'm extreamly proud of the post icons (little SNES carts), as they look espically nice. The colored dots in the logo are similar to those in the original SNES logo as well.

    Potential

Aside from the basic potential of monetizing the site and making it become more active. I believe there is great potential for this niche.

I am relatively sure that all things associated with Super Nintendo are on the cusp of experiencing a boom.

This is for two reasons. First, the virtual console feature of the Nintendo Wii is going to spark an interest in all types of retro gaming as titles that were released on the SNES are re-released on the newer console.
This will most likely lead to interest in other older games and the system in general.

Secondly, I believe that SNES collecting is poised to take off.

Video game collecting is a huge hobby. I can think of a handful of collector boards that are on the big boards list. Personally, I was a NES (Original Nintendo) collector and had over 600+ unique NES titles plus hundreds more of duplicates, pirates and imports. Add to that thousands of other systems and games. For the same reason I'm selling this site, I started selling off a lot of my collection earlier this year.

Oddly enough, video game collecting goes through cycles much the same way new consoles do.
Only the cycle is longer. As people get older, they have fond memories of the games they had as well as the games they didn't have. Having more disposable income than they did when they were young prompts them to realize their childhood, then become a casual retro gamer or a collector.

eBay pricing leads me to believe that NES collecting is dying out. Prices are much lower for rare and in demand games than they once were. This is happening because:

    * Those people that decided to collect the entire NES library (700+ titles) are nearing completion and only need a few select carts.
    * Those people who wanted to relive their childhood have bought the games they wanted, and moved on.

    The demand has dropped significantly.

A similar thing happened with Atari 2600 collecting as it phased out and NES collecting became more mainstream.

SNES era collecting is the next logical step. I believe this cycle will be much shorter than the NES cycle due to the popularity of the Playstation era, but it will be around for several years at minimum.

Already, I am seeing massive price increases for non rare but very popular games.
