Sneaky Tactics

I have found a website that has a totally different source page then it's viewable page.

I.E. if you use any browser to view this website you would see "Hi, how are you". If you view the source or if any SE goes to it, you would see "Goodbye, have a nice day".

The SE's caches the "fake" page and not the real visible page. I find this method effective, but VERY unethical. Is there any input as to why SE's don't penalize these types of webpages?

    backwards the site is (ten.erotsyotenohpllec.www)

Sounds like cloaking to me that you are describing - SEs will ban it if they catch it.

I think that kind of cloaking is easily detected so--for sure--the site won't do well in G. Y! SERP's are much easier to manipulate so maybe the site is doing well there?

their other domain using the same method is ranked number 1 throughout google, msn, and yahoo for the keywords they are targeting. i've notice that they used this method for many months and I haven't seen a bit of penalizing. actually they are doing better than couple months ago.

I guess they're one step ahead of everybody.

Question is: if u knew how to get away with it as they are, would you do it too?

it gets fustrating when I see other people's dirty tricks and nothing is done about it. it makes me want to say "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em", but I can't do it. As I said before, it's unethical. There are some tactics that I would use, but this one is too extreme.

I could have source code that relates to american express and my visible page can be about Toy Story. Unethical and it makes me question the business. If a business were to do this, it makes me wonder what other "dirty tricks" they do...

In this case you risk a ban. Get away with it but maybe only temporarily.
    Would you still do it?
You can take the risk if you want but what if the case is reported?

    Up to you...

    Cellphone:
I guess you could try reporting it to the search engines, as they don't really know about nor could they easily.

After reporting them see what happens and maybe you could let us know.

You are only doing good to internet users, whether surfers or pros, if you do that. So don't hesitate.

    Bye!

If the source code is completely off topic then it's just spam and it's totally and completely wrong. But if the source code is on the same topic as the viewable page, then this is not spam, it's just aggressive marketing, IMO.

    I understand your point AmCy.
I also agree to a certain degree.

But firstly it's the SEs opinion that counts as far as the risks of a ban are concerned, secondly it's a step ahead of doorway pages, maybe too ahead in my opinion.
But if the subject is the same, it's hard to say that it's totally a black hat technique.

But anyway, the SEs decide, as usual...

Reporting it requires the 8 point DCMA complaint and that puts you name and the complaint at the bottom of searches with them appearing in it should they accept the filing.

At least that's how I understand it.

Why does the link have to be given to us backwards and why is your username the same as the site name? This isn't your site?

haha, if it was my site I wouldn't tell you my sneaky tactics. It's a competitor's site that I stumbled upon. I saw their site making it to the top of all search engines, so I went to do some research of what methods they use. I saw that as one of them. Also, if it was my site, I would put it in forwards so I can get a backlink.

I sincerely hope you do not fall to the darkside... it is the quick and easy path, you know. Your competitor has apparently become a Sith.

c_s, cool, thanks for explaining, I am just naturally suspicious. I didn't know you could even have the view source show something that's not showing on the page, weird. And good thing about the backlink as well, hehe. :)
