In the stats of my photo website I see a whole bunch of really nasty porn websites showing up as referers. I have checked two yesterday, but didn't immediately see my links (have to check the source code). Today there are even more. I have some questions: -Can there be any negative effect on Google? I know most people don't think so, but I really don't want to be associated with them. They are the worst kind of sites! So I am wondering if Google could associate my site with this kind of garbage. -Is there anything I can do about this? -Have any of you seen a similar thing? What did you do?
Just hate it when inappropriate sites decide to link to your site? Not much you can do about though. Just make sure that you do not link to them and you will be okay with google. Did you check your traffic stats to see if you are getting traffic from those sites?
Yeah, quite a bit actually. It looks like each of them is sending between 10-30 a day (not sure yet, need to see how long they have been up). Considering that most of them link to Google (enter here -> to the perversion or exit here -> to google), I guess they cannot really punish those links. Nevertheless, I think those kind of "customers" just cause traffic and nothing else. I don't want my "smut" (fine art photos ) to be mistaken with their smut either. Actually I am doing just fine without their traffic.
I suspect it is a compliment of sorts. Sounds like they are trying to up their rankings and value through links to authority or quality sites. I have not seen anyone prove conclusive this works, but I have done it on some of my sites as well. There is a lot of speculation that out-going links to sites can help. So perhaps they think by linking to you they are going to boost up their own ratings.
Huh? You just made my day Hm. Well if it doesn't hurt then so be it. Maybe I should shoot some closups of fruits that look erotic in B/W and redirect those guys there with a link to buy, LOL. Anyways, thanks for giving me a chuckle
I would have links on my main page and all interior pages going to google, msn, adobe, and the other pr10 and pr9 sites. Nothing else, just those links with a small paragraph about the site the link goes to. Then my site would get great pr! LOL Maybe they just like your photos? Is it a photo image upload site? If so, maybe they want to upload some good pics? ROFLMAO Added....hmmmmmmmm....will have to check. See if there is a good market for such a site and I can make money with it. pornpicshere.com and let people upload their porno pics. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
I'm not so sure you should turn away that traffic Andre. Or even worry about it. People that buy porn are also the same people that buy cars, jewelry, donuts, and yes art. Just cuz they're coming from a bad neighborhood doesn't mean they're bad people. They may already be customers of yours.
Not unless it got hacked and turned into one. Guess I better drive home and do some checking Yeah, get a decent legal budget ready!
True. I am not even sure if viewing P. is a bad thing, but some of these sites are way beyond that Maybe I should start my own P. business and redirect all of those to such a site. Talk about targetted traffic
it will affect you a very little ... But never try to Provide Any outlinks to those.... else you will be getting out of google.
Thanks everyone. Its funny, those sites show up in my stats with 30-40 visits and when I go there and read the source code there is no link to my site anymore. I don't get any more hits, but instead there is another site. I guess my site is their test ballon whenever they design a new website, who knows.
I appreciate your concerns but incoming links will not harm your SERP's or PR. If they could do that do you not think there would be major campaigns by unscrupulous web site owners on their competiton if they could damage them? I appreciate you do not want associated with them. I get 30 to 40 gambling, MFA, phramacy sites etc applying for reciprocal links with me daily. They have to have a link on their site before applying. I have no use for these links and if Google sees them as an IBL it may place no relevancy on the link so therefore it does not actually harm my site.
They're not links. That's why you couldn't find them. It's referral spam. Look that up and you'll understand. If your logs aren't public, it won't harm you.
No, I am referring to referral spam which means naughty websites automatically crawl your site with fake referrer links. They are being logged in your stats package, like AW stats. If you then were so clever to leave stats.yourdomain.com wide open for google to crawl, them naughty sites now have a back link off you. Fully automated. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=AWstats+spam&btnG=Search&meta= See this site's stats, wide open and indexed. Now look at the referers: Super Sexy Shop and all that. http://www.inmilano.it/cgi-bin/awstats.pl?config=fatoantonio
Look at the full ist: http://www.inmilano.it/cgi-bin/awstats.pl?config=fatoantonio&output=refererpages All you have to do is add a link to him, click it 127 times, remove the link and you have a free back link at the top. That's how it works. And that's why the top always contains casino, porn and pharmacy links which is REALLY BAD because you are unknowingly drawn into a bad neighbourhood because you are linking TO them. They are NOT linking to YOU. So... Lesson is... ALWAYS block your stats. Password protext it or whatever. A 'secret' url isn't enough. Learn about htaccess.
Hm. Thanks man. I guess you never know it all. I don't think my stats are public. I am getting there from my hosting account login, but I will ask them if there is any way to access them. Thanks for pointing that out to me!!!!! Gave you some reputation.
