I smoked for about 10 years and quit about 10 years ago. I hated getting up in the morning and my mouth tasted like dog shit and I coughed and hacked up brown loogies, Nasty..

Smoking is just bad for your body, I smoke cigars once in a while now they aren’t as bad because you don’t take the smoke in your lungs so they don’t pollute your respiratory system.

In the States they are making it illegal to smoke in public places which I think is stupid they say it is because people will get 2nd hand smoke.

What about the smog..? Factory pollution, car pollution, and the huge brown cloud over the cities..

But they are worried about a whiff of tobacco smoke.

Used to smoke like a chain, no longer do.

I however support a smokers rights to smoke, a business owners right to allow or disallow smoking, I also laugh at the 'they cost us so much money in taxes' as the smokers pay TONS of money in taxes you fail to realize.

So as they're taxed on their filthy carcinogenic habit I should also have to subsidise it?

How do you know you're 'subsidizing it' have you broken down the amount they pay into taxes on the cigarettes to that of the treatment paid out for the 'filthy habit' ?

Until you do, you have absolutely no case to say they are costing you anything.

This argument is used in the US as well, when in fact the taxes collected on cigarettes far outweigh any tax obligations last I researched it.
Unless I'm reading this wrong, you are not subsidizing anything, in fact the smokers themselves are subsidizing you non smokers.

Aye great idea instead of buggering your lungs nail your liver:rolleyes:

You have to learn to deal with stress i went through this pattern for 8 years smoking as a stress release then it turns into one when you get up, one to go to the bustop, one after lunch, one on the way home, one after tea etc etc.

And before you know it you have lung disease.

I have to agree. I hate this arguement as well. I fully agree 100% that it is not a good habit to have, but if people want to complain about healthcare costs, then we need to start cracking down on druggies, alcoholics, FAT people, dangerous drivers, etc. I could go on forever....

Where will it end if we start cracking down on healthcare cost for unhealthy habits. Nobody would have care then. Smokers are totally the scapegoats in this situation and it's so annoying. Everyone has their unhealthy habits, which we probably all end up paying for one way or another....

Smoking is stupid as it doesn't produce any significant mood alteration. Why harm the body and get nothing in return? TTS is right, have a drink instead. If you must smoke, switch to marijuana, much better! :)

Smoking actually causes confusion as an ex-smoker, I know. You smoke when you want it as a reward and you smoke when you're stressed to the point where you don't know whether you're smoking because you're happy or unhappy. You'd only realise that once you've stopped. Have a look at my blogs, Life Tree and Healthy Schemes

Trust me I would give it up straight away if I were you. Waste of time and money.

It has a significant 'mood alteration' especially if you have unadulterated/unrefined tobacco it can be more 'mood alternating' than marijuana.

Even a hardcore smoker can get extremely relaxed from smoking a cigarette, first timers often get extremely buzzed, this however is refined tobacco. Wild unrefined tobacco's can be very, very 'buzzing'

I don't smoke and never will, but like if someone wants to smoke, that is their choice... They know that it is affecting their body. Tons of other bad stuff happens to people and people still do it. So let them do what they choose.
