Promote content is different from publish content. When you own a blog or a site, you publish whatever contents you like to it. However, this is not "promote", even if your blog or site is popular and attracts a good number of visitors. To promote a content, you must "sell" it to others (blogs, sites). The SMO Rule No.4 is: Promote Content. And with above idea in head, we could easily proceed. The reason to promote content is very obvious: marketing, SEO and SMO. You want to sell your product or service, then you must prepare some GOOD contents and publish them and promote them, so that people may: 1. Be aware of you (Need recognition & problem awareness) 2. Be interested in you (Information search) 3. Believe you and think of you (Evaluation of alternatives) 4. Buy from you (Purchase) 5. Be a loyal customer of you (Post purchase evaluation) This is the classic consumer buying behaviour. No matter what you are selling, this model is useful for you and you need it. In today's world people do not only need a product or service. This is simply because they already have enough and even get to choose from them, a lot of them. And the choosing process may be killing them and really painful. So a lot of good quality and interesting contents have been provided to make their buying process less painful and more easy and even enjoyful. However, in internet world, a good content that has not been (or can not be) discovered is not good. Hence you have to Publish it. And you have to Promote it. In the beginning of this article I have differentiated Publish and Promote and here I'm giving them clear definition: Publish is the activity involved in making a content available for people to read, watch and share. Promote is the activity involved in making a content reach more people. So Promote a Content is the further action after you Publish it.
