Vbulletin all the way. I have used phpBB for almost all of my developing life and when 3 came out, I was gobsmacked, I hated it from the word go. Some of my programmer friends didn't understand why I could hate it that badly, I just didn't like the layout, the look, the feel. Using fixed templates is terrible for phpbb3, they look shocking. And with the retirement of phpBB2 just around the corner, modifications, etc are going to take even LONGER to be developed. SMF just confuses me no end, and the code drives me nuts. I recently upgraded my forum to VB 3.7 and I must say I am loving it, and so are my members. I paid a mint for the license (I bought a lifetime license.. $170 AUD or so!) but I would much rather pay for something knowing I have the support and the great mods that are already available for 3.7.
