I am finally thinking of going for vB. Do you think I should? I currently use SMF.

Which version should I go for? 3.6 or 3.7? As I think 3.6. has many more styles and mods..

Also can it be bought online using credit card?

3.6 has more mods, but look at what 3.7 has to offer, as it has many previous mods built in.

You should check out IMPEX and see if 3.7 is supported yet. if it's not, then you should go with 3.6 and wait for the upgrade (and more mods).

Either way, the chance IS worth it.

I will have to do more research into Impex.. Any official website?

And what about payment? Does credit card have to be through PayPal etc? Can't you just enter credit card details?

personally I would go with 3.7 but since your porting your db over from smf check on impex compatibility on the vbulletin website.

Yes they take credit cards BUT if you live in the US make sure you call your cc company and allow international purchasing.

I just converted my forum from SMF 1.4 to Vbulletin ( 3.6.9 ) then upgraded to 3.7.0 .

    It was easy ..
But note that all your members will loose their actual Password , so you need to send theme an email newslettring telling theme to Get the new Pass Via ( Forget Password Feature)

Why do they lose their passwords?

Is that from the conversion or from updating from 3.6.9 to 3.7?

I checked vbulletin.com, and I think Impex supports 3.7 (Official vBulletin 3.7 support is present in the thread)

Why would you want to use an old minor version, use the latest.

Why do you want to change to VB at all? I thought you are a dyed-in-the-wool-smf'ler ;-) SY

    Some...

It's best to look for updated ones, or to at least check the thread on vB.org to make sure they are working on the updated version.

You'll have the best luck with the ones compatible with 3.6.9 as they had some heavy template changes with that version which also made it into 3.7.

So it won't make such a big difference to go for 3.7? Or should I use 3.6.9?

Also, have vB got an automatic mod installer? Or is it manual?

They will lose their passwords because in almost all forum systems the passwords are encrypted in the database and each forum system uses a different encryption so they wont work.
