Well that was a brilliant move! Take away the motivation for programmers to do any serious fixes on the biggest thing holding SMF back!! I love open source, but I have no problem with paying for add-ons.

There have been some new releases at SMF. You may need to check simplemachines.org.

You don't need to wait, there already is a free SEO mod for SMF that is updated regularly. I use it myself, it's fantastic.

    Get it here.

Ok. So I've downloaded SMF and have set it up for the most part. I tried to enable "search engine friendly URL's" but it requires Apache and I don't think GoDaddy offers that because I get a message saying it's not supported.

Most my competitors use VB for their forum. I don't realy want to spend $250-$300 for VB, do you all think it's worth it to just go ahead and buy VB instead? The link above does not work either. I think their site has crashed or something rather....

Any help would be highly appreciated. I'm trying to get the forum up and running and get in the search engines

    $250-$300???
    Where that come from?

vB license is just a mere $160 and you can get it cheaper if you are lucky.

My advise, look for another host which support mod_rewrite.

There's a newer mod out now called "Pretty URLs". It's awesome and also doesn't require a footer backlink like the other mod mentioned above does. I highly recommend it. Anyone else tried this new mod?

Can you post the link to the mod, also does it requires php to be installed as ISAPI module?

A google search for pretty urls smf will give you the link. I don't see anything that says it requires that. All it says is that your server needs to support .htaccess and mod_rewrite. It installed for me with no problems and with just one click. This is one thing that really makes me love SMF - how easy it is to install mods.

I am on the lookout also. If anyone develops a script please let me know. I realize I am bringing this thread back from the dead so maybe someone developed a solution since then. Thanks.

Does anyone know if this Mod works? Is SE Traffic increasing?
I used this mod a few days, but it messed up some other functions on my Forum, so I turned it off.
It seemed that to me that googlebot indexed my Pages faster with the mod.
