well , you might be knowing that some modifications involve skin edits
and some modifications conflict with the other . It appears that you
are experienced in applying MODs in vB and it should be easy for you
to fix the troubles on SMF . Anyway , if you need help in fixing SMF
for reasonable charges then contact me :)

as stated above, when using a theme other then the default theme, editing is required when you install mods. its not a big deal, it can be time consuming and tedious but worth the effort. you'll find plenty of help at SMF, or for a small fee or even free, i can do this for you, depending on the mod and the theme your using. my profile at SMF.

If you download the MOD directly from the SMF customize section, you can select your version of SMF from a drop-down list and get manual installation instructions.

Usually you can just add the code that goes in the default template into the corresponding custom template file.

Mod's with SMF are tricky, I'd switch and go with myBB or vbulletin.

its a big problem of SMF. Mostly mods don't work with custom skins, You need to code your custom skin to make your mods run.

    That's why I use phpBB.

...because following manual instructions is superior to following a smaller set of manual instructions?

Usually the changes needed for custom themes in SMF are fairly trivial.
