just chmod settings.php that would be enough chmod to 666.
remove install folder or chmod to 000.

there is no install folder in SMF, there is an install.php and should be deleted. my permissions are as follows:
    folders 0755
    all php files 0644
    Settings.php 0600

but this is me, if these settings don't work for you then up the permissions a little.

The only file that may needs chmod is the Settings.php and that is only in the case that XXS is open to your host.

As the XXS exploits are very old, propably you want need to change anything :)
