    Hello,
I recently bought a VPS from atlantic.net and I have moved my wordpress blogs inside this VPS. I am learning Joomla and SMF technology. I don't find much time because of office work tough. I didn't install SMF before neither I have much knowledge on it. But, there is a feature of 1 click installation in my Cpanel hosting. I never installed any CMF with 1 touch. Should I use this feature? What are the pros and cons of 1 touch installation? Help is appreciated.

    Pro - it's a lot easier.

Con - it's the version your host provides - which may be the current one or may be an older one.

I've written forums and I've installed other peoples' forums using CPanel. I'll do whichever is needed for the particular case - there's no difference between manually (and correctly) installing a program on your site or installing the same version through CPanel..

You can try to install it thru one click install. Just check the version. Wish you good luck with your site and your hosting provider :)

As mentioned about, this way is easier, but I normally do a manual install because I have found that quite a few of my clients hosting accounts have older versions. So just check first.

Thanks mate. Suppose I get the latest version and installed via 1 click process. After that, suppose another new version come to the market, at that time can I update this version with one click?

If your hosting company installs that later version, yes. Otherwise you'd have to download the latest version, upload it to your site and install it.

Why don't you install xampp on your computer (it'll give you a local web server) and try manually installing SMF? It's not all that difficult. The work comes in when you're customizing it - your forums, sub-forums, banners, mods, etc. And you still have to do that with a one-click install. Most forum software is almost one-click when you install it manually, anyway. Try it locally and see. If it's not beyond your ability, just upload the original files to your site and install it - and you'll know that you can do it for any update in the future. (You'll probably have to create a database, but if you have phpMyAdmin [it comes with xampp and with most control panels on a hosted site], that's trivial. Just add a database, name it and if you want some security, add a user.)

There must be some technical problem that is why it is acting like this and you can do much better than this.
