Buying the new SmartFTP means $40 from your wallet, but I think it's more than worth it.

Who thinks the SmartFTP creators just got incredibly rich from this update?

SmartFTP interface is pretty intuitive, but I'll stick to free FileZilla :D

Why would you need a $40 FTP program? The only use for them is putting things from your desktop to your website, which all FTP programs do for much less than $40 (and as little as $0)

I always used CoreFTP Lite. It's a free download and I haven't had to use a feature while transferring via FTP that's not in the program.

There are too many free alternatives. I will use the free FTP interface that comes with Internet Explorer before I use a paid client.

I think that was a dumb move on the smartFTP end. Way too many great free ftp programs. I been using filezilla forever.

The only real attraction for me to use SmartFTP is that it had the best interface of its time. Now that it is several years old with no really new features, I'm not going to pay for it, even after using it for all this time. Why? It's not worth it.

If you use Firefox, you can get the same service out of the Firefox plugin FireFTP. SmartFTP just built a customer base and lured them with its free product, only to charge when they felt like they needed to. I hate business practices like that. Either start offering it with a price, or don't.

Something I learned about this year :D

    In IE type:

    ftp://username:password@domain.com

    Code (markup):
It should login via FTP so you can just drag and drop files into the browser.

How can you CHMOD files/folders and move entire folders recursively in IE FTP? Only thing I was able to get working while using it for a customer was single file uploading or downloading?
