Next time do a search on this forum It has been discussed thousands of times before. Nevertheless I did a search for you. Nice he . Read more about How smart pricing works?
Thanks. But it's from advertiser's point of view, how about from publisher's point of view? Each click on my site nowadays generates just 1 - 3 cents mostly, and I am really wondering if it's been smart priced and how to avoid it.
I am experiencing the same sudden drop in click value on all my sites since sep 1, and still as of today (10th), my sites are all software (databases and other programs, I make and sell) and a small medical site where folks can get info on various diseases and ailments. Some medical ads used to pull $1.50+ now they average 20 cents, most software ad clicks generate 1 cent - 3 cents, some may jump to 30 cents, but this is rare. (Exact amounts not disclosed by Major Domo to protect against TOS violation.) And, yes how does one know if it's smart pricing and how does one get back out of it ? Also, my search engine traffic now averages 80+ MSN followed by 15% yahoo, then google, since Ive been sandboxed since June 1. Does traffic coming from other (non google) search engines make adsense ads pay less per click ?
No one knows Google hasnt unveiled their secret recipe for "Smart pricing" besides saying that it depends on a number of different variables. Read some more on this forum and this forum.
Thats normal. At first you pull the full amount or a certain amount paid per ad but then after a while smart pricing kicks in. I have been in the same boat but I have do noticed that after a certain time your earnings will go up again.
Yes. I too had few very low paying days, but now things are back to normal. In fact click value had gone so low..1,2,3 cents was all i got.. I thought I would remove adsense and try something else on my site..but things are back as earlier now..
I am glad to hear that a couple of you have experienced the same exact thing then, and your click earnings went back up etc.... I can only wait and hope mine return to good levels also. Thanks
Things could change all the time. When one of your clicks convert for an advertiser, your earnings may maximize and begin to decline, and decline... until you convert again, and so on. Who really knows. All we know is, the more conversions you make the advertisers the higher your earnings will be. So, with that in mind.. The best way to combat smart-pricing is by Pre-Selling for AdSense - tailoring your content to excite your readers about products advertisers generally offer. Not only that, but mentioning the benefits of <them converting for the advertisers>, etc. Obviously this isn't making statements like 'Click my adverts and sign-up to anything you find', but you get the drift. You don't want to go breaking the TOS now. Don't let your reader /think/ about what to do. Should I click on another section? Should I click for more information? Should I click the back button? Should I click those adverts, they look interesting? By the time they've read your first paragraph of your article, they should know what to do right now, or after they've read your entire article. ..And know what to do once they've clicked, ie. scowering the page for the benefit you mentioned, ie. <conversion for the advertiser> for a sign-up, a free trial, lah-dee-dah. I hereby declare war on smart-pricing. Charge!!! Pete
I also have a believe that when there is conversion, the value of subsequent clicks may be higher. But how adsense will know the there is a conversion? Not all surfers buy on the spot, and not all advertisers willing to let google know their conversion ratio.
Not all no, but most of the smart ones do. AdWords really encourages it.. more then they did before. Not all surfers buy on the spot no, but some sign-up, download free trials, request more information.. some buy. Google will work it out and value the clicks on our sites appropriately. An article talking about the benefits of using a graphics program, mentioning a lot of places on the Internet offer free trials - will knock the shit out of a site just mentioning tips on a certain graphics program, or offering free tutorials. It's certainly time to be thinking about things like this if we as publishers want to maintain the highest possible CPC's. We don't just want them to click. We dont' just want the highest CTR. We want them to /convert/ for the advertiser, and that should be the focus now I think, else prices are just gunna keep on dropping. Pete
Ive been sandboxed since the end of may, and still click earnings per ad were great, etc. then once Sep 1 hit, wow, they all plummeted.... 1 cent clicks, 3 cent clicks, etc..... is still that was as of today sep 11, so its been 11 days as of today (sep 11)
don't feel bad, all my sites dropped to 1 cent clicks last month now its back to normal..i had to change the sites completely though =(
My bad patch hardly lasted 3 days. Just checked . 28 August and 29 August were worst. Is it possible that it was an "end of month effect" on adsense earnings ? My accounts doesnt seem to be much affected by smart pricing.
