Small Online Business Marketing

Just a little background: I am a High School student that wanted to get a little extra money but no job opportunities were presenting themselves so I started a technology consulting business where I help people fix, use, or buy technology. I wasn't getting as much business as I was expecting so I decided to start an online version where anyone can ask a question and for a small fee I will answer it personally and rapidly.

Here is where you come in: I cant seem to get my website seen by anyone. I am a very small business in a world of big companies so I cant get anywhere on Google, and therefore no one can find me. How can I market this so I can get customers? The website is tech-assistant.com. As I am a High School student I don't have lots of money to put towards marketing. I've been told word-of-mouth is the only way I can get customers, but not sure how that will work either.

    Thanks for any help,
    Kaylan

You might try Craigslist and other classified ads usually you can post free ads in a category that might match your services.

As far as search engines you need some content that will actually come up in peoples search. Technology is extremely competitive, you have "SMART PHONES" "LAPTOPS" "routers" etc These are very hard keywords to rank..
You need to start with some "long tail" keywords(3-4 word phrases), maybe some blog posts with content that you can create longtail keywords in.

You also need to figure out who you are going to target.? and what they might be searching for. You seem to want a job as an "technology assistant" Who needs that ? and how will they look for it ?
Maybe articles and blog posts about solutions for common technology problems.

Building a "web presence" always helps along with more content like blog posts you can try to get your url in profiles, local listings, maybe even write a couple of guest articles for sites that will let you put a link back to your site.

Just a few suggestions that are low budget and only take labor.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I am uncertain about "long tail" keywords. What would an example of one be? I assume you mean to put these keywords in my SEO? Or just on the websites pages?

    Thanks, Kaylan

So instead of just "SMART PHONES" you could try to target something like"common problems with new smart phones" which would be 1000xs easier to rank in a search engine.

Ok. That makes sense! So searches would be directed towards me more cause I have more specific keywords.

    Thanks again, Kaylan
