I submitted to Google next sitemap: Sitemap type Web Submitted Apr 12, 2008 Last downloaded by Google Apr 16, 2008 Total URLs in Sitemap 26274 Indexed URLs in Sitemap 17 Sitemap errors and warnings No errors or warnings found. It seems that there were indexed small number of pages, although the pages have different content and title. I tried to follow standard SEO. Is it a time problem or have i done something wrong. Thanks!
Google may have indexed more but not be showing you the results yet in the webmaster info. It tends to delay showing you all the info it has.
I've often noticed that Google indexes my sites quicker if I start with adding 10-15 pages (usually the main sections of the site). When Google has indexed theese pages, I add more and more of the subpages. I don't know why this has happended for me, but one of the reasons could be that Google gets suspicious when you submit 10.000+ as your first sitemap-file (if this was your first submission). If Google indexed every single page of a 35.000-pages site within a 2-months period it would be easy to place yourself in the SERP's really quick. But Im just speculating here.
Hy, Thank you for the answers. The site is new (http://www.downloadsoftfree.com), i've submitt it since March, but i think that is too big diference between the number of links from sitemap and the one indexed. Perhaps you're wright objx, i should have started with less links and than to add more links. When i give site: www.downloadsoftfree.com it finds: Results 1 - 10 of about 695 from www.downloadsoftfree.com and in spite of that i see only 17 links in Webmaster Tools. What do you think? Is there something else to do or should i only have to wait? Thank you very much!
It's important to say that you won't be punished for submitting a large amount of pages in your sitemap. I'm not even sure if Google treats this kind of behaviour different than when you start with a smaller sitemap-file. As I said, I'm only speculating. But one thing is true though: If you're not adding the "<priority>"-element in your sitemap, it will be hard to control which ones of your 26.000 pages will be indexed first. That is, in my opinion, a good reason to start off with the most important pages, when you're dealing with that kind of large sites (25.000+pages). Eventually Google will pick up all of your links, you're just gonna have to wait. Good luck!
I'll wait a while and if there are no changes, a will try in your way. Thank you for your help it means a lot to me!
Better to wait for couple of weeks, if you can't see any change resubmit sitemap, and revise again the title of every pages.
Just a thought (and please don't take offense) but 26k+ urls in a brand new site is a little surprising. Could Google have any of that content already indexed from other sites? If so, it could really hurt you.
I've made a submit of sitemap wirh next result: Sitemap type Web Submitted Apr 25, 2008 Last downloaded by Google May 6, 2008 Total URLs in Sitemap 26274 Indexed URLs in Sitemap 284 Do you think that i'm on the right track? Thanks!
I know that you said you were just speculating, but that wouldn't make sense. What if he's had his site for a long time, but he just decided to get a sitemap? I've had websites for at least 10 years and have never used a sitemap until this year. Don't know how long sitemaps have been out, but you get the point. I've also read about people who have only submitted about 10 links and only got a few listed. I don't think the number of links makes a difference. Does Google index all of your links when you only put 10-15 in the sitemap?
Is there a reason to concern if i had: Indexed URLs in Sitemap 10.000 and after a few days the number of index URLs decreased: Indexed URLs in Sitemap 8.000 Is it normal to decrease the number of index links, if i haven't done changes in sitemap? Thanks!
