Small Niche web domain name versus sub domain name. Which is better? Does it matter

Ok to be more specific I am curious about which holds more value or if it doesn't make a difference.

Let's say for example that I wanted to make a small niche website and buy a domain name and call it www.golfballreviews.com so I could target the keyword "Golf Ball Review".

However, what if I had a bigger website called Reviewstuff.com and I made a page for my golf ball review and called it www.Reviewstuff.com/golf-ball-reviews

Which one would hold more value in SEO or does it not even matter? Im just curious.

i think both have importance on their own . if you have the sub domain then you could possibally get the traffic on the subdomain and it will give nice visibility too with less seo activity on the other end you have to do seo for new site in very detailed and serious manner.
