Hi guys! I'm not new to adwords but while running a campaign and building my kw list I noticed that it is the first time i have this issue (Question) Guys it might be a stupid question but anyway, please help me out. Thanks in advance. Question: For example, if I'm targeting a certain keyword and related phrases, let's say "build your own sandbox" (just an example) so "sandbox" is my main keyword do i have to use "build your own sand box" ans another keyword/phrase to bid on? Thanks guys! I hope you understand the question.
I'm no expert but here is my take on it. As Google recommend, try and think of what your potential customers might type in the search box. If it was me I might put just "sandbox" but that is a very broad term - am I looking for a test program, a kid's sand-pit, a box for sand-casting models, a box for storing sand? So, if you can narrow it down by using multiple words or phrases that helps reduce unnecessary clicks and theoretically should improve relevance and Quality Score and thus reduce your bids and CPC and ultimately improve ROI. Therefore, you do want to bid on both. Coming to your particular phrase I think it unlikely many would search for "build your own sandbox" but it may be worth keeping for the "long-tail". I would be more likely to use the phrase "build my own sandbox" or, "build a sandbox" or, "create a sandbox."
hey bjewelled! Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Yeah, I always try to come up with kw's that people looking to buy might type in. Supposing it has the same meaning, the kw, this is just an example, that in the keyword tool results I see many searches using "sandbox" and "sand box" in the same, way, would it be good to bid on both or just on the most commonly used which is sandbox? Because I mean, every click counts you know. and those typing sand box are looking for "build your own sand box" as well. Thanks!
It all depends on which matching option you want to use,I prefer exact matching. But ass I see you are using phrase matching so you will get the traffic from the "build your own sandbox" keyword if you use "sandbox" ass a keyword.
Good question. I actually have a similar situation with some of my keywords and for the "split" term, e.g. 'sand box' I get a message saying it is not triggering ads because another keyword, the "unsplit" one, 'sandbox', is. I guess it would not harm to try both and see what happens.
