I agree if you can get into a setting such as a convention - but not a Marketing Convention, you want to go to a trade industry convention.. Lets say you are targeting local businesses, they will not all be at a convention - but if you did lets say Air Conditioners, they have HVAC conventions. Or dental is a popular one, they have Dental conventions.. etc etc.. But for this you must be very prepared and polished. Business cards, maybe an iPad in hand, be able to collect email or leads information very quickly, have something to hand to potential clients while you are talking, etc... There is so much to this you could write a clickbank product How to work a Convention lol... Another option though is to outsource. Have someone else pound the pavement for you with a digital camera, and have them only look to create or update Local companies presence on Facebook / Twitter / Local Marketing. If they buy a FB fan page or update their Yelp or twitter with you, then your foot is already in the door for more services such as web design, seo, etc etc
